History of S.G.S. Government Institute of Advanced Study in Education

The Genesis: Foundation of Excellence (1853 - 1883)

The history of S.G.S. Government Institute of Advanced Study in Education (S.G.S. G.I.A.S.E.) dates back to 1853, when the Mission Framing School was established in Madras under the Madras Education Department. This marked the beginning of a structured approach to teacher education in the region. The institution began with the vision to train teachers and strengthen the education system in the Madras Presidency. In 1883, the foundation stone for teacher education in Rajahmundry was laid with the establishment of the Local Fund Elementary Normal School, which catered to the training of teachers for elementary education.

Milestone Achievements Over the Decades
